Admission Requirements

BENG MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

The main entry point into the programme is the Senior Secondary School Certificate or GCE O’level or its equivalent. Candidates must satisfy all University entry requirements plus passes at credit in at least five subjects (including Mathematics, English, Chemistry, and Physics) all obtained at not more than two sittings.
Level 100: Admission into Level 100 requires, in addition to the above, an acceptable performance in the University Matriculation Examination (UME) in the relevant subjects which include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English Language.
Candidates who successfully complete the Remedial Programme in the Faculty of Science may be absorbed into Level 100 provided that they obtain at least an average grade of ‘C’ in Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry. They are further required to satisfy the UME requirements for admission.

Level 200 (Direct Entry): Candidates who apply for direct entry are admitted into Level 200, provided they satisfy one or more of the following requirements in addition to the above general requirements.

  1. They have at least three passes in subjects including Physics, Mathematics and/or Chemistry at GCE ‘A’ Level.
  2. They have NCE (Technical) with at least 10 points and satisfy the University entry requirements
  3. They have a National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of Upper credit plus.
    1. Relevant credits at ‘O’ Level, or
    2. Grade A in WAEC – Technical or City and Guilds

Duration

The minimum duration of the programme is five academic sessions for candidates who enter with Senior Secondary School Certificate or GCE ‘O’ Level or equivalent qualifications.  Candidates admitted under Direct Entry and special entry will spend a minimum of four and three academic sessions respectively provided that they satisfy all the other University requirements.


POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN MECHANICAL  ENGINEERING

This program is essentially a bridging/conversion course for Engineers and Scientists to enhance their competence and enable them practice their various fields at the highest level, and to provide further academic preparations for those who may wish to benefit from our postgraduate degree program. It is designed to satisfy the minimum requirements for admission into our postgraduate degree program.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Graduates of Mechanical Engineering with third class degrees or   its equivalent.
  2. Holders of a Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with a   minimum of Upper Credit or its equivalent.
  3. A minimum of two years industrial experience in Mechanical Engineering.
  4. Must satisfy all other requirements of the School of Postgraduate Studies.

Duration

  1. Full time: Minimum of 3 semesters and maximum of 4 semesters.
  2. Part time: Minimum of 4 semesters and maximum of 6 semesters.


MENG MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

Candidates for admission into the M.Eng Program:

  1. Must normally have a Bachelor’s degree or a recognized Postgraduate Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and/or other related fields from this or any other approved University.
  2. May be required to satisfy all other Departmental requirements in a qualifying Examination process before admission.
  3. Must satisfy all other requirements of the School of Postgraduate Studies.

Duration

The duration of advanced coursework and research for the degree of Master of Engineering is a minimum of three Semesters and a maximum of four Semesters for full time students.


DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PHD)

Candidates for admission into the Ph.D. Programme must:

  1. Have an M.Eng degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering and/or other related field from this or any other approved University.
  2. Satisfy the Department in a selection process and
  3. Satisfy all other requirements of the School of Postgraduate Studies.

Duration

For full time students, the duration of advanced coursework and research for the degree of doctor of Philosophy is a minimum of Six Semesters and a maximum of Ten Semesters.

For part time students however, the duration is a minimum of Eight Semesters and a maximum of Fourteen Semesters.
